What will fashion trends be significant in 2022?

As 2021 was all about hot pink, logomania, color blocking, and the ‘hot goth’ trend, SS22 brings sexy back, and we cannot be more delighted to breathe new life into our working from home closets.

As the lockdown restrictions slowly begin to lift and the future starts to look a little brighter, the previous year passion for full escapism has been swapped with an all-out celebration and SS22 is about dressing accordingly. It’s up to show off those bodies that lockdowns have kept hidden for far too long – so think short, sheer, or second-skin. The mood? Less fashion, more flesh.

As a result, Nineties and Y2K throwbacks are in abundance in this season’s collections, with micro-mini skirts, high heels, glitzy tops, and low-slung styles making a comeback. On the other hand, Bridgerton fever has seen designers draw inspiration from the 18th and 19th centuries to create dramatic post-pandemic looks.

Swimwear, solar shades, and bold stripes were also hot trends for SS22, confirming once and for all that the season is all about optimism. We’re ready for you – and we’ll be dressed for the occasion.

Youthquake

Did you know from short to micro, hemlines are getting hotter and higher. On the catwalks, Sixties rebellion collided with Noughties exuberance for a barely-there take on the trend that’s both low-rise and high-rise.

“Putting the Hot in Haute Couture”

If debauchery is the theme of this spring-summer season – a bright, shiny take on sexy dressing for the Y2K generation – here is how grownups do it. It is about self-confidence as it is about provocation, this is subversive seduction. Let’s unbutton.

Time Travel

With his masterclass on making the gothic glamorous by styling old with new, Nicolas Ghesquière presented a masterclass in post-pandemic dressing from Louis Vuitton. Another designer also looked back to the future with a collection that sported crazy, creative interpretations of 18th- and 19th-century style. Quite literally historic.

Disco Utility

From cargo pants to flashy outfits, low-slung waistlines and Grecian dresses, it’s time to go back to the year 2000. Channel your inner Beyoncé circa the Destiny’s Child ‘Survivor’ era – this is utility with an insanely glamorous edge, and it’s anything but basic. The primary rule is to wear heels with everything.

Comes the Bright Sun

Perhaps it’s because we’re all in need of a hot holiday, but beachwear turned into ready-to-wear for SS22. Rejina Pyo showed her collection by the pool at London’s Aquatics Centre while Virginie Viard walked the Chanel catwalk in chic swimsuits.

Super Stripey

There’s a simple rule for making a statement: don’t read between the lines. Fashion becomes two-toned and graphic as it gets bigger, bolder, and more in-your-face. Banish the Breton – instead, stripes adorn dresses, suiting and shirts.

Sunrise to Sunset

Solar shades are so bright, you’ll need SPF: this season’s eye-searing palette is a must. From gold to amber through to burnt orange and fiery red, consider this visual vitamin D.
